They are parthenogenetic livebearers — one snail reproduces alone, and young are born as fully formed 1 mm crawlers with no egg stage at all. There is nothing to remove.

Cleaning Ability: Not Close
Mystery snails are sold as cleanup crew, and it oversells them. They eat leftover food, some soft algae and decaying plant matter, grazing surfaces they can reach. They are not efficient detritivores, they do not process buried waste, and they contribute nothing to substrate health. Being large, they also add meaningful bioload — in a small tank a few mystery snails can produce more waste than they consume.
Trumpet snails do the job no other common snail does: living inside the sand bed, ploughing the top few centimetres continuously to prevent compaction and the anaerobic pockets that produce toxic hydrogen sulphide, and eating detritus where it settles. Their bioload per snail is very low.

Mystery snails need a bigger calcium budget for a much larger shell, and they suffer visibly from erosion in soft water — pitting on a 45 mm golden shell is far more obvious than on a small brown cone.
