How to raise betta fry outdoors. (Ponds, flower pots)
Low-Tech Grow-Out Solutions for Warm Seasons
Outdoor grow-outs offer fast growth, strong immune systems, and natural hunting instincts — especially during summer.
What You’ll Need:
Large flower pot, storage bin, kiddie pool, or shallow pond (10–50 gallons)
Live plants (hornwort, duckweed, guppy grass)
Mosquito net or mesh cover
Dechlorinated water
A few snails (optional cleanup crew)
Partial shade or indirect sunlight
Steps:
1. Set up container in a safe, shaded area.
2. Fill with conditioned water and add floating plants.
3. Seed with live foods (daphnia, scuds, mosquito larvae).
4. Allow the system to establish for a week before adding fry.
5. Transfer 3–4 week old fry to grow-out.
Tips:
Use a net to prevent predators (cats, birds, raccoons).
Top off evaporated water regularly — don’t let temps spike.
Harvest every few weeks to check growth and separate males if needed.
