At Blackwater Aquatics, our story began with something simple — love.

A love for bettas, a love for aquariums, and a love for giving overlooked creatures a second chance.

For years, my wife and I visited pet stores and felt the same ache every time:

rows of bettas in tiny cups, stressed, pale, sick, and forgotten.

We knew they deserved better.

We knew we could do better.

Where Passion Turned Into Purpose

What started as rescuing a few bettas quickly grew into a mission.

We committed to creating an environment where fish could actually live, not just survive.

No mass breeding.

No neglect.

No shortcuts.

Instead, we focused on:

• Ethical breeding practices

• Clean, stable water conditions

• High-quality live foods like scuds, daphnia, baby brine shrimp, and grindal worms

• Larger, enriched grow-out tanks

Every fish we raise or rescue receives the kind of attention commercial suppliers simply don’t have the time or systems to provide.

Rescue, Rebuild, Rehome

Many of our bettas begin their journey with us as rescues.

We slowly rebuild their health using:

• Live food diets to restore color and energy

• Gentle filtration

• Medical treatment when needed

• Soft, stable water parameters
